Abstract:

The inhalation route is the choice in the treatment of the paediatric asthmatic patient. This way has its own advantages in relation to other routes: the direct action to the pulmonary tree, quicker therapeutical action, smaller doses used and less systemic adverse effect. There are several factors that affect the deposition of the drug into the pulmonary tree. Among them we can mention: the size of the particles, the velocity of the emitted dose, the initial amount of drug, inspiration flow, post-inspiration apnoea, inhalation technique and the presence of valves, death space and the volume of the inhalation chamber. There is a review of the different inhalation devices available: Pressurized Metered Dose (PMI), Dry Power Inhaler (DPI), Inhalation Chambers and Nebulizer System, its characteristics, its advantages and the proper technique of use. There is also Scientific Evidence (SE) found in the indication of different pharmacological products for inhalation therapy in Paediatric Asthma.

Keywords: Pressurised metered dose. Dry power inhaler. Scientific evidence.
